H.E. Mr Josip Paro (Croatia)
H.E. Mr Josip Paro, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Croatia to the OPCW, presented his credentials to the Director-General on 9 April 2009. He is concurrently accredited as his country’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Ambassador Paro started his diplomatic career in 1992 as a Desk Officer for Western Europe in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 1993 he served as a Political Counsellor in the Croatian Embassy in Madrid. In 1996 he became the Head of Department for Political Planning and from 1997 to 2002 was Assistant Foreign Minister in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Prior to his appointment in 2009 as Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, he served as Ambassador to the Court of St. James (UK) from 2003 to 2009 and as non-resident Ambassador to The Gambia from 2004 to 2009.
Ambassador Paro holds a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Comparative Literature from the University of Zagreb. He speaks English and Spanish and has passive knowledge of French, Portuguese Italian, Slovenian and Russian.
